Residents demonstrate over removal of electricity transformer

Dodowa (Greater Accra) 5 May ?99

A decision by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Legon Branch to remove a transformer installed in Dodowa since 1986 has sparked off demonstration in the town since Monday.

The demonstrators, made up of both the young and the old have started keeping vigil around the transformer to make sure it is not removed.

According to them, members of the community paid for the cost of installation and as such found no reason why they should be deprived of the use of the transformer.

Mr Torgbor Johnson a member of the Dodowa town council said the youth in the town have vowed to prevent the removal of the transformer” even at the cost of their lives”.

Meanwhile the District Chief Executive Mr Teiko Mensah is reported to be in touch with the company to see how best the matter could be resolved.
