Kumasi, Feb 23, GNA – Residents of Ahensan have been advised to desist from erecting speed ramps on the rehabilitated access roads in the area since doing so without authority from the Department of Urban Roads constituted an offence.
Mr Edward Akuamoah-Boateng, assemblyman for Ahensan electoral area, who gave the advice, stressed that it is only the Department of Urban Roads that has the mandate to either erect speed ramps on the roads or issue permit to people to do so.
He gave the advice when he briefed the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Sunday on development projects being executed by the government to give a face-lift to the Ahensan community.
The projects include rehabilitation of all access roads, improvement of the drainage system and the construction of a new market to replace the present one which had become very small.
The assemblyman observed that out of ignorance, some people in the township have arrogated to themselves the authority to erect speed ramps on the portion of roads already rehabilitated without any permit from the Department of Urban Roads and asked them to stop it or risk being arrested.
Mr Akuamoah-Boateng also entreated those who have their kiosks along the drains to re-locate them to facilitate work of the contractor on the drains.
He stated, “Anyone who fails to remove his or her kiosk along the drains will have such infrastructure demolished and the cost surcharged on the fellow”.
The assemblyman also disclosed that the section of Ahensan known as “Twemako”, has since December 29, 2000 been re-zoned for the construction of a new market.
He said the new market to be constructed under the European Union (EU) Micro Project will soon start and cautioned people against the temptation of encroaching on the land.
