Reverend (Rev) Samuel Adjei has called on traditional authorities in the country to appeal to the New Patriotic Party members in Parliament to rescind their decision not to participate in the vetting of ministerial nominees of the President.
Rev Adjei, who is the President of the Christian Friends of Democracy, explained that the action being taken by the NPP caucus in parliament is dangerous to the democratic development of the country and as leaders of the society, where the politicians are failing, it is the moral obligation of religious leaders and traditional authorities to demonstrate leadership and bring the country on course.
Rev Adjei made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the political development of the country on Tuesday.
He said NPP is in court over the election of the President of the Republic of Ghana and questioned where the country would be heading to should the court decide in their favour and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with majority in Parliament also decided not to cooperate with their government.
Rev Adjei reminded the Members of Parliament who are refusing to honour their parliamentary responsibility that, they are in parliament on the mandate of their constituents who are also paying taxes to be used to pay them at the end of the month so they are doing a lot of disservice to the people of Ghana should they go ahead with their decision to boycott the vetting process.
He said for the democratic development of the country, all citizens and political parties had a responsibility to respect state institutions including the Presidency and any group of people who behaved otherwise would not be serving the interest of the country and the people of Ghana.
Rev Adjei said any disrespect to any state institution is a key to confusion and anarchy which should not be encouraged.
He called on the leadership of NPP to demonstrate their commitment to the democratic development of Ghana by rescinding their decision not to participate in the activities of the Parliamentary Vetting Committee.
