Accra, Feb. 9, GNA – The Chairman of the Odododiodoo constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Daniel Nii Okai, has appealed to Mr Nii Okaidja Adamafio, a former National vice chairman of the party to rescind his decision to resign from the party.
Speaking to the GNA in Accra on Wednesday, he said while the prominent role of Mr Adamafio, who was a Minister of Interior in the NDC regime, could not be understated, his decision to leave the party had come as a surprise.
He stated that Mr Adamafio was the MP on the party’s ticket from 1996 to 2000 for the area and said it was expected that he would continue to be in the forefront of the party in the area now that the NDC was going through trying moments to unite the members to ensure that the party retained the seat in the 2008 elections.
Mr Okai said the decision of Mr Adamafio to resign had come as a surprise and urged him to reconsider his stand since “a rolling stone gathers no moss”.
He said, however, that if Mr Adamafio feels strongly that he had to leave the party, he could not be stopped from exercising his democratic right of choice and wished him well in his future political career. Mr Okai urged members of the NDC in the area to remain calm and united, adding that politics should not be practised with violence or force in a democratic era.
“We can and must agree to disagree without recourse to indecency” and things that would throw the area into confusion.
“After all it’s the good of the country and development that we are all looking for,” Mr Okai stated.
The former Minister in a letter dated February 6, 2006 said he had resigned from the party citing lack of internal democracy and the fact that all the programmes and policies of the NDC centred on the personality of former President Rawlings.
