Republic Hall alumni sets up maintenance endowment fund

Kumasi, March 17, GNA- The alumni of the Republic Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi has set up a maintenance endowment fund for the maintenance and expansion of residential user facilities at the hall.

Mr Daniel Boamah, President of the Hall, who announced this, said the fund has realised 16 million cedis, being donations and contributions from students of the Hall.

He was briefing the press in Kumasi on Tuesday on this year’s Hall Week celebrations which commence on Sunday, March 21 with the theme: “Developing the Culture of Entrepreneurship In The Ghanaian Tertiary Student-The Missing Ingredient”.

The establishment of the fund, Mr Boamah said had become necessary due to the increasing number of resident students at the Hall, which has had adverse effects on most of the facilities.

“The Hall now accommodates 1,200 students instead of 400 students it was originally built to accommodate and this development is not only disrupting effective academic work, but it also poses a serious health hazard”, he added.

Mr Boamah also disclosed that plans were far advanced to create a Website for the Hall to enable its alumni abroad to access all information about the Hall’s activities with ease.

Meanwhile, a five-member interim management committee under the chairmanship of Dr Eric Asare, Senior Hall Tutor had been set up and charged with the management of the fund. 17 March 04
