Reporter Detained For Four Hours

A Ghanaian Democrat reporter Lawrence Kumah was detained for close to four hours by the Atwima Nwabiagya constituency chairman of the NPP Nana Kofi Owusu when he sought to crosscheck a story he was following with him.

The Reporter told Kapital Radio that the chairman slapped him before locking him up in one of his rooms after failing to disclose his source to him. He said he had gone to the NPP chairman to enable him respond to allegations of misappropriation of party funds but after listening to him Nana Owusu asked for the source of his information which he refused citing ethical reasons.

According to him this incurred the chairman?s anger earning him a slap and his subsequent detention. He said whilst in the room the chairman told him he was going to hand him over to the BNI so that they! can deal with him. He continued that it was then that he started calling his friends with other media houses who took up the story resulting in his early release.
