Report suspicious gunshot wound cases to police – GMA advises members

Elmina, Sept. 26, GNA – The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) on Sunday asked its members to promptly report to the police all suspicious cases of people with gunshot wounds seeking medical attention in their health facilities. It also appealed to government to adequately equip the security agencies for them to effectively deal with the rising incidence of crime in the country.

In a press statement signed by Dr Sodzi Sodzi-Tettey and Dr Adom Winful, General Secretary and President respectively of the GMA, after its three-day Fifth NEC Meeting at Elmina, the Association expressed concern about the numerous armed robbery cases and killings in the country.

It also expressed concern about the carnage on the country’s roads that had worsened in recent times resulting in undue pressure on the health delivery system and the economy in general.

The statement called on the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit to intensify its educational campaign on road safety practices. It should ensure that only road-worthy vehicles ply the country’s roads whilst the use of mobile phones during driving as well as drink-driving should be seriously checked, the statement added. The Association called on the Fair Wages Commission to quickly engage the GMA to negotiate on issues such as conditions of service, market premium and inducement to facilitate the smooth implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy in the health sector. 26 Sept. 10
