Accra, Nov. 2, GNA – Parliament on Tuesday unanimously adopted the Report on a Legislative Instrument (LI) that seeks to bring into operation the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The National Health Insurance Regulation 2004; LI 1809 would dictate and legalise structures and the necessary regulatory framework for the scheme.

Presenting the Report, Mr Francis Agbotse, Chairman, Subsidiary Legislation Committee, said the LI provided a wide range of regulations for the National Health Insurance Scheme.

“They include application for registration, management of the scheme, qualification of a board member, methods of monitoring performance”

He said there was the need for the population to be extensively educated on benefits and related issues.

The LI would come into force within twenty-one Parliamentary sitting days from October 5 2004.

The National Health Insurance Act, which came into force on September 5 2003, established the National Health Insurance Scheme.
