The people of Appolonia in the Greater Accra Region can now enjoy improved health services following the inauguration of their refurbished community health post, on Tuesday.
The ultra-modern health facility comprises a maternity block, a dispensary, male and female wards, consulting room, a family planning room, as well as an outpatient department.
The project, done by the Appolonia Development Company (ADC), in collaboration with Rendeavour, a Pan-African integrated urban developer, and the people of Appolonia, is to promote quality health delivery for the upliftment of socio-economic wellbeing to the residents and their neighbours.
Mr Anthony Okyere, Country Manager of Rendeavour, said its contribution to the project formed part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility. Rendeavour is primarily focused on the improving health and educational matters, including their infrastructure, across Africa, he said.
He said it supported the upgrading of Appolonia’s health post with the aim of making it an accredited National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) Provider. Therefore, with facilities like electricity, water, a medical refrigerator, and other health healthcare essentials the health post can better serve the community.
Mr Okyere advised the community to work collectively behind of the Community Trust Board to secure adequate resources for their projects. Mr Stephen Jennings, Founder, Rendeavour, pledged more assistance, saying, “This is a catalyst for starting major projects as more and more elements would be given to the community for its development.
Mrs Patience Ami Mamattah, Acting District Director of Health Service, Kpone Katamanso District, said it is a central goal of the health sector to help reduce maternal and neonatal deaths so the health post would further this goal.
Alhaji E.A. Tetteh, District Chief Executive, Kpone Katamanso, hailing the Appolonia Development Company, said the gesture was in consonant with the Better Ghana Agenda of the government to make health care better and more accessible to all.
Nii Nuertey Amobi III, Chief of Appolonia, commended ADC and Rendeavour for the project and called on the community members to collectively make the facility serve its purpose.
