Rename KIA after Nkrumah – Bagbin

Accra, June 17, GNA – Mr. Alban Bagbin, Minority Leader on Friday suggested the renaming of the Kotoka International Airport to Kwame Nkrumah International Airport to attract more tourists since his name reverberates globally of good leadership and vision. He said Ghana is seen as a star not only in Africa but also in the whole of the developing countries given Ghana a competitive political advantage over other countries.

Mr. Bagbin made these comments on the floor of the House in support of a statement by Mr. Edward Nana Yaw Ofori-Kuragu, NPP MP for Bosome-Freho on tourism development in the country. Mr. Bagbin said in the political arena Ghana holds a competitive advantage, which could be used to advance Ghana’s fledging tourism industry.

“The name Kwame Nkrumah alone attracts people and interest” and wondered, “how many people know of Kotoka in the country, how much more the international community.” “We also have Mr. Kofi Annan as the head of the UN and we can use their names to our advantage in our bid to attract more tourists into the country.”
