Remembrance Day service held at Koforidua

Koforidua, Nov 11, GNA – The 60th Remembrance Day Service was held at the Jackson’s Park at Koforidua on Friday to remember those who lost their lives in the two world wars and peacekeeping duties. Seven officers and 128 men drawn from the First Battalion of Infantry (1BN), Michel Camp, Tema, Police, Prisons, Fire and Customs, Excise and Preventive Services (CEPS) and the Ghana Immigration services took part in the parade.

Wreaths were laid by Mr Yaw Barimah, the Eastern Regional Minister, on behalf of the government and people of Ghana, Lt.-Col. Ebo Gaisie, Officer Commanding, IBN for the security services, ex-Aircraft Man, M.M.Y. Boateng for the ex-servicemen while the New Juaben Krontihene, Baafour Adjei Tuffuor, laid on behalf of the chiefs and people of the traditional area.

In an exhortation Rev. David Quayson, Chaplain of the 1BN, said it was good that as a nation, “we remember those who have contributed to the security of the nation and its people. Their efforts, no matter how meagre, helped to bring the nation this far.”

“As we remember what they have done and continue to do, let us also support them with our prayers and in kind to enable them put in their best, especially these days that armed rubbery is so rampant,” he said. Rev. Quayson reminded security personnel that it was only the good things they do that would be remembered with joy, “Because it is the good deeds of others that we remember today.”
