Remembrance Day observed in Sunyani

Sunyani (B/A), Nov. 11, GNA- A Remembrance Parade to commemorate the first and second World Wars as well as those who sacrificed their lives for world peace was held in front of the Cenotaph of the Legion Hall in Sunyani on Thursday.

One hundred and eighty-one participants made up of contingent from the Military, Police, Prisons, Customs, Excise and Preventive Services (CEPS) as well as members of the Regional Branch of the Veteran Association of Ghana (VAG) took part in the parade.

Dignitaries at the Parade included the Senior Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East Mr J.H. Mensah, Nana Kwadwo Seinti, Regional Minister and his deputy Mr Yaw Adjei-Duffour, Okatakyie Agyemang Kudom, President of Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs who is also the Omanhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area, Chief Superintendent Henry Dadzie, Acting Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, Major Nsiah Ntiamoah, Three Garrison Commander and Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) (Rtd.) Stephen Diawuo,Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of VAG. Mrs Theresah Kufuor, the First Lady who was on official visit to Brong-Ahafo, was also at the Parade.

Captain Ben Ahadzi of the Ghana Armed Forces, Sunyani was the parade commander.

In all, five wreaths were laid with the Regional Minister who laid that of the Government and people of Ghana, followed by Major Yeboah Commander of Three Garrison for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). The acting Regional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Dadzie laid one on behalf of Security Services, Okatakyie Agyemang-Kudom on behalf of Chiefs and people of Brong-Ahafo Region and WO1 Diawuo for Ex-Servicemen.

In a short speech, the Senior Minister Mr Mensah noted that the soldiers died in the course of fighting through Somalia, Abyssynia, Burma and India to secure freedom for us and stressed that the nation would continue to honour them for their selfless services.
