Kumasi, Nov.11, GNA – A wreath-laying ceremony in remembrance of soldiers who died in the two World Wars was held at the cenotaph at the Post Office Square in Kumasi on Friday.
A parade made up of 10 officers and 250 men drawn from the Ghana Armed Forces, Police, Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Prisons Service, Immigration Service, Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) and the Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) under the command of Captain Wellington Attipoe Dumashie participated in the ceremony. Christian and Moslem prayers were said for the fallen heroes accompanied by the pouring of libation after which a minute silence was observed.
Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, laid a wreath on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana whilst Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatia, Bantamahene laid one on behalf of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the chiefs and people of Ashanti. Wreaths were also laid by Colonel Fuseini Iddrisu, Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) the Northern Command on behalf of the security services whilst Warrant Officer Class Two Appiah Danquah (Rtd), laid one on behalf of VAG.
Among the dignitaries were; Madam Patricia Appiagyei, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister and Acting Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) traditional rulers and the clergy.
