Accra, Aug. 5, GNA – Alhaji Amadu Sorogho, Member of Parliament for Abokobi-Madina, has called on the youth to open a new chapter by refraining from acts which hinder national development. Alhaji Sorogho made the call at a Remembrance Day held at Madina, near Accra on Sunday for Alhaji Seidu Kardo, founder of Madina who died in 1977.
He said, “the youth would be doing disservice to the nation if they did not allow the fear of the living God and his teachings reflect in their daily lives.”
Alhaji Sorogho described the late Alhaji Kardo as a man whose efforts had made the Madina township what it is today and charged the citizens to continue the good work of the founder.
The Member of Parliament said he has set up ‘Best Teacher’ and ‘Best Head teacher’ awards in order to improve education in the constituency. He said through the MP’s Common fund, he had been able to offer scholarships to 67 brilliant but needy students to further their education in the area.
Alhaji Sorogho said from the same source, he had spent 280 million cedis to provide streetlights in the district.
A free vacation remedial classes for senior secondary school students had been established, he said, adding that plans were far advanced to put up a 7.2 million dollar hospital at Madina. He therefore called on all to work in harmony so that the project would be executed on time.
Alhaji Baba Seidu, Acting chief of Madina who was confirmed as the substantive chief at the function, called on all chiefs to bury their differences and work in harmony so that peace would prevail at all times.
The foundation stone of Madina township was laid in 1959 by then Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. E.K. Bensah. The township now has a population of over 200,000
