Remand Prisoner Conceals Indian Hemp In Sachet Water

A remand prisoner, Nashiru Ibrahim in the Dansoman police cells who attempted to convey into the cell quantities of Indian hemp concealed in two sachets of water, was on Friday sentenced to five years imprisonment by an Accra circuit court.

Also in the dock was his accomplice Jennifer Mensah who allegedly brought the drugs concealed in the two sachets of water.

Ibrahim, charged with abatement of crime, pleaded guilty whereas Jennifer denied the charge of supplying narcotics.

Ibrahim, who is on remand for robbery, explained that he asked Jennifer to give money to someone in exchange of some items which she (Jennifer) was not aware of the content.

However he (Ibrahim) knew the content of the items.

The court, therefore, admitted Jennifer to a bail sum of GH? 10,000.00 with two sureties.

According to the court one of the sureties should be a public servant.

Jennifer is to reappear before the court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, on January 18.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Reindolph Agyemang told the court that the complainants were two police officers at the Dansoman Police Station.

He said on January 4, this year, at about 1500 hours, Jennifer went to the Dansoman Police Station to visit Ibrahim who was in custody on a charge of robbery.

DSP Agyemang said shortly after the visit, Ibrahim pleaded with the policemen on duty to release GH? 25.00 cedis to Jennifer to enable her to buy some items in town for him.

The policemen obliged and in some few minutes, Jennifer returned to the Charge Office with two sachets of water one of which was opened and concealed in a black polythene bag.

DSP Agyemang said the two policemen became suspicious and opened the black polythene bag only to find Indian hemp concealed in the bag.

Jennifer was therefore arrested and she disclosed that it was Ibrahim who asked him to buy the drugs for him.
