Religious leaders asked to sensitise congregation on govt policies

Nkoranza (B/A), Aug 28, GNA – Mr James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, Nkoranza District Chief Executive, has urged religious leaders to educate their congregation on government policies to enable them to understand the issues involved and take active part in their implementation.

Mr. Appiah-Awuah was addressing members of the Nkoranza North, South and East district branches of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church at the close of their annual camp meeting.

The DCE said since the church was a stakeholder in the nation’s development, it behoved on the leaders to ensure that their members played their respective roles effectively in national development. He cited the capitation grants to schools, the school feeding programme and the National Health Insurance Scheme, saying they were laudable policies aimed at improving the living standards of the people. Mr. Appiah-Awuah called on Christians to allow the teachings of the bible to reflect in their social lives and that they should promote love, unity, cooperation, peace and understanding.

He held that if the people lived in harmony, they would join hands to initiate programmes in their various communities to enhance their development.

In an address read for him, Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South, urged parents to invest in the education of their children.

Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi, who is also Deputy Minister of Education and Sports, asked parents to take advantage of the capitation grant to enrol their children in school.

He commended the SDA church for ensuring discipline among its members and appealed to the youth to fear God and respect authority. Pastor Oscar Peter Nsiah, in-charge of the Nkoranza south district of the church said members had decided to construct a hospital at Nkoranza and urged parents in the church to encourage and support their children to pursue higher education to serve at the hospital.

Pastor Nsiah appealed to the Omanhene of Nkoranza and the District Assembly to provide the church with land for the project.
