Religious group donates to vocational centre

The Tema First Baptist Women Missionary Union of the Ghana Baptist Convention, on Saturday donated equipment and items to the Baptist Vocational Training Center, at Frankadua in the Asougyaman District of the Eastern Region.

These included four sewing machines, two hair dryers, four cylinder sets, four ovens, one bag of rice, one carton of fish and second hand clothing.

Presenting the items, the president of the Union, Mrs Christiana Owusu Koranteng, said the group sought to spread the gospel and to help the needy in society, adding that Jesus when leaving the world left a commission to his followers to preach the gospel.

She said the Union emulated Jesus Christ, who showed compassion for the poor and needy.

Mr. Jervis Djokoto, Director in-charge of the Baptist Relief and Development Agency, said Christians were obliged to help the poor and needy in society.

He said the Ghana Baptist Convention was working hard to build the capacity of Christians in the country.

Mr. Djokoto also presented ten dining tables, 20 benches, plates, table cloths and cutlery, which were donated by Agape Life Ministries Laurel Maryland-US, to the centre.

He also presented two electronic sewing machines and two rechargeable lamps donated by the Christian Berea Church Fellowship in Korea to the centre.

Reverend Mrs. Grace Akunor, Manageress of the centre, thanked the Union and other organizations for their gesture.

She said 12 inmates of the Centre, who would complete training in two weeks time needed machines and seed money to start their own business.

Rev. Mrs. Akunor appealed to non-governmental organizations and civil society groups to support the Center.**
