World Baptist Alliance through All African Baptist Fellowship at the weekend donated food items valued at 11 million cedis to Ivorian refugees resident at Bole in the Northern Region. The items, donated through the All African Baptist Fellowship, included 40 bags of rice, two bags of maize, assorted drugs, assorted detergents and cooking oil. They formed part of activities of the Church to alleviate the plight of the refugees at Bole.
Presenting the items, The Rev. Bernard Timothy Appau, Co-ordinator of All African Baptist Fellowship said they were seeking the consent of the refugees to find out their needs, which would be presented in the next few months. He said the donation was to make the refugees comfortable and enable them to live normal lives, even in their current state.
The Bole refugee camp is currently housing 95 refugees from Cote d’Ivoire as a result of the political crisis in the country.
Mr Akati Mahama, Bole District Chief Executive commended the Baptist Church for supporting the refugees in the district and called on other religious bodies and philanthropists to support them. He said the Catholic Church and other religious bodies had been in constant support to the camp and gave the assurance that the assembly was working around the clock to ensure the comfort and safety of the refugees at the camp.
The spokesman of the refugees, Diomonde Kesse commended the government of Ghana for accepting them and taking care of them and appealed that any assistance should be given to them directly to be distributed to the refugees rather than passing it through so many channels.
