Religious bodies offer to mediate in NAGRAT impasse

Accra, Oct. 23, GNA – The Ghana Conference of Religions For Peace (GCRP) has offered to mediate in the impasse between the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and government over their conditions of service, Maulvi Wahab Adam, Ameer and Missionary-in-Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Ghana, said on Monday in Accra. Maulvi Wahab Adam was addressing hundreds of Ahmadi Muslims in Accra after saying prayers to celebrate this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr which marked the end of thirty days of fasting.

He appealed to members of NAGRAT who are currently on strike accept the intermediary role of the Conference to help address their concerns.

Students have been badly affected by the current strike action. The Ameer called on Ghanaians to remain united to ensure continued peace and harmony in the country, which he said, could lead to accelerated development.

“The Eid-ul-Fitr, therefore, conveys a strong message of unity of all sections of society -ethnic, religious or political” he said. Maulvi Wahab Adam also stressed that fasting in the month of Ramadan was obedience to the commandment of Allah. He said the month of Ramadan also instilled in Muslims discipline, self-control, tolerance, repentance, forgiveness and goodwill towards all.
