Release jailed NPP activists – NPP charges Mahama

Youth activists of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are calling on President John Mahama to personally intervene in the case of some youth of the party who have allegedly been incarcerated since 2009 over electoral violence.

Leading activist of the NPP, Steven Amoah, alleges that the three boys were rounded up by the police on suspicion that they are the cause of the violence which occurred in Tamale between NPP and NDC supporters immediately after the election.

He told XYZ News the continuous incarceration of the young men is a stain on Ghana’s democratic credentials.

If we are talking about a country which is going places in terms of its democratic dispensation, I don’t think Ghana is seen as one now because we are talking about where the laws actually deal with a particular group of people because of their affiliation.”

Mr. Steven Amoah is therefore calling on President Mahama to release their party members who, according to him, have been wrongly jailed.

He said President Mahama should demonstrate his peace sermons by releasing the men in order to engender a peaceful co-existence.
