Rekindle the spirit of self-help – DCE

Manso-Nsiana (Ash), May 10, GNA – Mr Ben Kwakye-Adeefe, the acting District Chief Executive for Amansie West, has appealed to chiefs and opinion leaders to encourage their people to take part in communal activities.

He said the spirit of self-help appeared to be slowly dying in the area and this gave cause for concern. Mr Kwakye-Adeefe was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Manso-Nsiana to round off the Constitution Week celebration in the area.

It was organised by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on the theme, “Reducing Poverty Through Citizens Participation in Local Governance”.

He reminded the people that for democracy to gain roots and be truly meaningful they need to participate in governance and that this should not be limited to only elections. “The people must be inspired to participate in democratic system holistically”.

Mr Ransford A. Coffie, the acting District Director of the NCCE, told parents to invest in their children’s education to enable them to become useful citizens. He said the pace of socio-economic development of the district would be determined by the literacy rate. Nana Kokoko Buadu II, chief of Manso-Nsiana, who presided, appealed to the government to construct the road from Antoakrom to Nsiana and to provide the town with good drinking water and additional school block to enhance teaching and learning.
