Reintroduce ICAG programme in School of Administration

Accra, April 25, GNA – Mr Francis D. Tweneboa, President, Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG), on Friday called for the reintroduction of the ICAG programme into the curriculum of the School of Administration, University of Ghana.

He said this should be in a form that would satisfy the University Academic Board and the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Mr Tweneboa made the call at this year’s graduation and admission ceremony of the Institute.

He also appealed to the Ministry of Education to help the ICAG to establish a School of Accountancy, which would enable them to train more accountants to reduce the one accountant to 18,000 people ratio in the country.

Mr Tweneboa said the Institute, though not a training body, was compelled to run evening programmes for registered students in Accra, Takoradi and Kumasi to help more students to pass their examinations and to help both the private and public sector institutions who require varied expertise to survive and grow.

He appealed to professional accountants to embrace the culture of specialisation to enable them to be competitive. He cautioned Chartered Accountants to uphold the motto of the institute, which is integrity, and also respect the confidentiality of information acquired during the course of performing professional services.

In all, 44 people graduated and they would have to work under a Chartered Accountant for not less than 12 months before becoming members of ICAG. Twenty-six new members were also admitted into the institute. Ms Elizabeth Ackah was adjudged the overall best student. A citation read said Ms Ackah wrote all the three levels after being exempted from the first level and passing all in “successive diets” non-stop without a referral.
