Rehabilitation Works On Larteh-Akwapim Water System Begin

Larteh-Akwapim,(Eastern Region) 16 Oct. Rehabilitation works have started on the water supply system for Larteh-Akwapim. They are estimated at 67 million cedis. The project is being financed with 50 million cedis from the Italian Food Aid counterpart fund with the rest coming from the Akwapim-North District Assembly. The District Chief Executive, Mr. Anthony Gyampoh, assisted by the Lartehhene, Osabarima Asiedu Okoo Ababio the third, performed the sod-cutting ceremony yesterday by River Abrunkumi to begin the rehabilitation works. The project, to be completed within three months by Messrs Lamchet Limited, involves excavation and pipe-laying over a kilometre stretch from the river to the town. Three reservoirs with a capacity of 31,320 gallons of water daily will be constructed. Mr. Gyampoh appealed to the people to offer communal labour to reduce the cost. Osabarima Ababio said the people were contributing 5,000 cedis a man and 3,000 cedis a woman towards the construction of the road to River Abrunkumi. The Community Water and Sanitation division of the Ghana Water and Sewerage Corporation will soon hand over hand-dug wells fitted with hand pumps to seven communities including Mangoase, Old Asuoyaa, Tinkong, Okrakwadwo, Okorase, Nyame Bekyere and Osubetor.
