REGSEC meets over deadly Agbogbloshie clashes

The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) chaired by Ishmael Ashitey, the regional minister, is scheduled to hold a crunch meeting Wednesday morning following fresh clashes at Agbogbloshie, a suburb of Accra.

The clashes left two persons dead – as per official figures – with one person, a pregnant woman, in critical condition.

Already, there is a heavy police-cum-military presence at the scene as residents are said to be going about their normal businesses. The conflict broke out on Tuesday, April 11 between the Kokombas and the Dagombas resident in Agbogbloshie. It is said to have been started by a Kokomba allegedly stealing a gas cylinder belonging to a Dagomba though other reports say it is rather a mobile phone the Kokomba stole.

An eyewitness told Onua FM on Tuesday that three persons were stabbed to death in the heat of the conflict. The conflict comes in the wake of previous ones with some attributing the recent one to politics.
