Ho, June 12, GNA – The Kadjebi District Registration Review Committee has disqualified 57 out of 66 people against whom various challenges of ineligibility were made during the voters’ registration exercise.
The bulk of those disqualified in the district, the highest in the region, were on grounds of non-residence.
Mr James Arthur-Yeboah, Assistant Volta Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) who made the statistics available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday said six of the 57 disqualified persons were being investigated by the police for double registration. He said Karim Eliasu, one of those challenged, confessed to lying to registration officials about his nationality and was arraigned before a circuit court at Jasikan and fined 500,000 cedis.
Mr Arthur-Yeboah said four cases were still being reviewed by the District Registration Review Committee, which also overturned challenges against five persons.
Ketu District spanning two constituencies, recorded the second highest of 26 challenges with the rest of the districts recording between zero and nine.
While Ho recorded nine challenges, five of which were on suspicion of being underage, Noth-Tongu and South-Tongu recorded zero.
