Registrar General present Watervile documents to Judgement Debt Commission

The Registrar General’s Department on Monday provided files on Watervile Holding BV1 to the Commission of Inquiry into Payments from Public Funds arising from Judgment Debts and Related Processes.

The Commission had expected the Registrar General’s Department to furnish it with documents on some 17 companies that it had registered.

Madam Helen Akpene Awo Ziwu, Principal Attorney at the Registrar General’s Department explained that her office received a notice to provide documents on Watervile Holding BV1 and not on the 17 companies as stated at the hearing.

“My attention was drawn to the notice this morning April 8, 2013,” she stated and promised to furnish the Commission with the necessary documents on the 17 companies in two weeks time.

“We did not get the first subpoena that requested the Department to provide documents on the 17 Companies, we only got the second subpoena, which directed us to submit documents on Watervile Holding BV1,” she said.

The Solicitor General also furnished the Commission with files on Mahogany Furniture Company Limited, and Sweater and Socks Company Limited.

Madam Ama Abrakwa Gaise, a Solicitor at the Solicitor General who presented the files said the Solicitor General collated a list of tables of companies with a case against government.

“We separated those with intentions to sue from those that did not have intentions to sue,” she stated.

She promised to provide the Commission with documents on other companies at a later date.

The Ministry of Defence, which was also expected to appear before the Commission however could not turn up for hearing and would be provided with a subpoena to appear before the Commission on April 17.

Meanwhile, the Commission is inviting the managers and owners of Frandesco West Africa limited to report and assist the Commission in respect of an ongoing investigation.

The Commission noted that the company is at liberty to appear before it with its lawyers.
