Wa, April 11, GNA — Mr Issahaku Malik, Upper West Regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has predicted a 90 per cent victory for the party in this year’s general elections in the region.
He said a lot of structures and strategies have been put in place to enable the party to move from its 82 per cent win in 1996 to 90 per cent this year. Mr Malik who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Wa added that the scramble for parliamentary seats under the party’s umbrella in the region is a clear demonstration of people’s willingness to take up political responsibilities.
He said about seventeen people are so far vying for the eight parliamentary seats in the region and advised all those interested in contesting to channel their applications to the regional secretariat of the party.
The regional chairman condemned skirmishes in the party whereby factions are being created to back aspiring parliamentary candidates. He said the party is well-organised and will therefore not countenance any act of indiscipline and insubordination from anybody.
The regional chairman debunked the notion that NDC cannot win the 2000 general elections without President Rawlings as the presidential candidate.
”People vote for policies and quality leaders in the system which we believe the successor of President Rawlings has got to sweep the elections in the first round” he emphasised.
