Takoradi, Aug 13, — Mrs Esther Lily Nkansah, Western Regional Minister, has cautioned teachers in the region who are not performing satisfactorily to change their attitude. Opening the first annual regional conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) in Takoradi, she urged them to find a way of identifying non-performing teachers to be sanctioned . Mrs Nkansah said teachers who are always drunk and the lazy ones must be flushed out. She said ” we cannot afford to look on unconcerned while these teachers destroy the future of our children and future leaders “. The Regional Minister asked the conference to examine issues that militate against quality education in the region and make recommendation. Mr Yusuf Effah, Regional Director of Education, advised Heads of Senior Secondary Schools to recruit competent staff and to recommend the removal of teachers who are not performing or are drunkards. They should regularly submit returns and to participate in extra curricula activities such as sports and culture, he said. Mr Nat Kwofie, Regional Chairman of CHASS, said most of the 42 Senior Secondary Schools in the region have fallen woefully below the status of secondary institutions. He said most of them lack facilities necessary for the development of the mental, spiritual and physical capabilities of students.
