Regional Minister Wants Etiquette Included On Syllabuses Of Schools

Sunyani, Aug. 29, – The Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr David Osei-Wusu has called on the Ghana Education Service to include the teaching of basic etiquette in the basic school programme. This is contained in an address read on his behalf by the regional economic planning officer, Mr Sintim Ofosuhene at a forum on basic etiquette in the society organised by the Centre for National Culture at Sunyani yesterday. Mr Osei-Wusu called on cultural centres to reinforce the efforts of parents and school authorities in bringing up children properly. He noted with regret that the youth these days refuse to give their seats on buses to the elderly without compunction simply because they have also paid for the ride. Mr Osei-Wusu said the inclusion of basic etiquette in school programmes would bring about cohesion between the youth and the elderly which will move society forward. Mrs Akua Debrah, the regional manageress of the Presbyterian educational unit, said deviation from basic etiquette should be frowned upon. She said environmental cleanliness should be the accepted norm and called on the people to keep their surroundings clean. The regional director of the centre for national culture, Mr Sampson King Osei, said such discussions would be held from time to time to encourage the public to adhere to accepted norms in the society.
