Regional Minister assures Government Departments

Koforidua, March 5, GNA – Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister, on Thursday, appealed to heads of government agencies and other stakeholders in the region to make proposals for the development and marketing of the untapped resources in their area.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo, who was addressing heads of departments at a meeting in Koforidua to fraternize with them, said his focus would be to eradicate poverty and disease, adding that the region was endowed with potentials such as tourism and agriculture that needed to be harnessed to create employment and wealth.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said about 70 percent of the population in the region were engaged in agriculture and urged the heads to make inputs into improving the road network in the area to open up the communities to marketing centres. He said he believed in team work and consensus building, adding that, he would operate an open door policy to champion the cause of the region. He assured the workers in the region that he would assist them to operate in a sound environment, adding that he would also find solutions for government departments facing office accommodation problems.

The possibility of the private sector to assist in this direction would be explored, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said. Mr Quaye Sowah, Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), on behalf of the department heads, gave the assurance that they were ready to give of their best to move the regional agenda forward. He reminded his colleagues that as public servants, any act of omission on their part would impact negatively on the region, and therefore urged all to work harder.
