Regional Minister asks financial support for CNC

Sunyani, Aug. 31, GNA – Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, has directed all the 22 Municipal and District Chief executives in the region to contribute GHC 1,000 each to the Centre for National Culture (CNC) in support of the celebration of 2010 National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFAC) scheduled to take place by the end of November.

Tamale, the Northern Regional capital, is to host the national celebration after which the various regions would celebrate it.

Some of the municipal and districts assemblies in the region had donated the amount, Mr. Azaanab Waksman, Regional Director of CNC, said on Monday.

Mr Waksman was addressing a meeting of the District and municipal Directors of CNC in Sunyani to draw up strategies to make the regional and district celebrations unique.

He said the centre had received GHC 3,000 from the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture to support the celebrations.

Mr Waksman expressed appreciation to the Regional Minister and the municipal and district assemblies for their continual support towards the development of culture in the region.

He explained Brong-Ahafo was bestowed with abundant cultural resources and that there was the need to showcase such heritage to attract more tourists especially from the international community to boost eco-tourism.

Mr Philip Baazeng, the Deputy Regional Coordinating Director, emphasized the importance of tourism to national development and asked the district directors to take the preparations serious to make the celebrations successful.
