Refusal to attend communal labour to attract heavy fine

Pershie (C/R), Jan. 4, GNA – Nana Amai Eduabo IV, chief of Pershie, near Elmina, on Saturday warned that heavy fine would be imposed on citizens who would refuse to participate in communal labour. He expressed concern about the apathy towards communal labour in the area and stressed that everything would be done revive the communal spirit among the people. Nana Eduabo, who gave the warning at a durbar of chiefs and people of Pershie to climax the week-long celebration of the annual “Ahosiesie festival”, said by-laws on communal labour would be enforced. He called on the people to ensure environmental cleanliness to prevent diseases such as malaria and cholera.

Nana Eduabo urged parents to provide their children with the basic needs and send them to school since education formed the foundation for development. He appealed to all citizens of the area to contribute to towards the building of a community centre, establishment of a radio station and construction of KVIP since the government alone cannot provide them with all their needs. 4 Jan 09
