Refugee dies after suspected arson

Mr Kone Adams, an Ivorian refugee at the Eagle Star Refugee Transit Camp at Elubo in the Western Region, died of serious injuries while on admission at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi.

This followed serious burns he sustained when a tent he was occupying at the Camp was allegedly set on fire by unknown persons on Wednesday.

The Jomoro District Police Commander, Superintendent John Fugerson Dzineku, who confirmed the story to the Ghana News Agency at Half Assini on Thursday, said he suspect it was an arson committed by people outside the camp.

According to him, authorities at the Camp claimed that they detected the fire about 0230 hours on the fateful day and residents of the camp extinguished it.

He said Mr Kone, an Ivorian combatant, was rushed to the Hospital where he died later on admission.

The body has been deposited at mortuary pending autopsy while police investigation continued.**
