Red Cross assists Iran Clinic

The Ghana Red Cross Society has presented medical supplies worth $20,000 to the Iran Clinic in support of an outreach programme to be carried out by the two institutions.

The medicines included anti-malaria, anti-inflammatory, antibiotics, multi vitamins and analgesics, among others, to the hospital towards the preparation for the programme that would provide free healthcare to people affected by the June 3 disaster.

Dr Michael Agyekum-Addo, President of the Ghana Red Cross Society, presenting the items to the Director of Iran Clinic, Dr Masoud Maleki Birjandi, said the items were in view of the disaster that befell the country some weeks back.

He said the two humanitarian institutions have, therefore, decided to put their resources and expertise together to help those who were affected by the disaster.

“We will be having the outreach programme in places like Nima, Avenor, Adabraka and Agbogbloshie,” Dr Agyekum-Addo added.

Dr Birjandi, in response to the gesture, expressed his gratitude to the society for being proactive, pledging the hospital’s support to the outreach programme.

He said although the recent flood affected the hospital because of its geographical location, it has continued to help people with the assistance of the Red Crescent Society of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He said donation is a show of the relationship between the two societies and countries at large to support each other.

“I know this will strengthen the relationship between the two countries and organisations,” he said.
