Recording not Wontumi’s voice – Egbert

Mr. Egbert Fabille Jnr counsel for embattled Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr. Benard Antwi Boasiako has indicated that the voice recording that made alleged libelous comments about Ibrahim Mahama, who is also a brother to President John Mahama is not that of his client.

Concluding-cross examination of the first witness in the case, one Adwoa Owusu at a Kumasi High Court 7 on Monday, Mr. Fabille suggested to the witness that the voice making the rounds could not have been that of his client.

But the witness maintained that it was the voice of Chairman Wontumi as he is affectionately called indicating that previous interviews with the defendant proved the said voice recording could be his.
The case presided over by Justice Charles Adjei Wilson has been adjourned to the 21st, 22ndand 23rd of March 2016 to allow for the second and third witnesses to be called.

Chief Executive of Engineers and Planners, Ibrahim Mahama has sued the NPP Regional Chairman for GH¢5 million for allegedly making defamatory remarks against him whilst addressing his party faithful in April 2012.

He was alleged to have accused Ibrahim Mahama of siphoning proceeds from the fuel price increases in the country and also alleged that Mr. Ibrahim and his brother, the President, usually used the monies stolen from the national purse on luxurious holidays in South Africa.

Meanwhile, the NPP Chairman was not in court when the case was called, he was however represented by his aide, one Edward Kwasi Akuoko
