Reconstituted Ahafo-Ano North DIPAC meets

Tepa (Ash), Nov. 14, GNA – The reconstituted Ahafo-Ano North District Inter-Party Advisory Committee (DIPAC) last Friday held its first meeting to discuss plans to ensure free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections in the district at Tepa.

Addressing the meeting, Mr Kwabena Asante-Boahene, the District Electoral Officer, appealed to leaders of political parties in the district to strictly observe all the rules of multi-party democracy, particularly the political party code of conduct for peaceful elections in the district.

He appealed to the party leaders to advise their supporters to refrain from baseless and unsubstantiated allegations and accusations before, during and after the elections in order not to create unnecessary tension in the district.

He gave the assurance that the Electoral Commission (EC) is on course for the impending elections and asked the committee to report all allegations for prompt investigations. Removal and destruction of political paraphernalia came into focus as the major problem in the district and Mr Asante-Boahene asked the party leaders to educate their supporters to refrain from such acts as anybody caught engaged in them would be arrested by the police and put before court.

Topics discussed during the meeting were, The Role of Political Parties in Election 2004, The Role of Electoral Commission, The Security Situation in the District, Transfer of Votes and Lost Identification Cards and The Role of Candidates’ Agents. The 13-member DIPAC has two representatives from the five political parties active in the district, namely Democratic People’s Party (DPP), People’s National Convention (PNC), Convention People’s Party (CPP), New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
