Accra, Feb. 10, GNA – Reconciliation International, an organization at the forefront of the UK’s Ghanaian community issues from youth mentoring to bereavement, counselling and support, is it to honour six Ghanaians for their contribution to development. They are Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, Okyehene, Mr. Talal Fatal, Managing Director of METRO TV, Azumah Nelson, a former world boxing champion, Mr. Kojo Bonsu, Managing Director of AGOO MAGAZINE, Ms Akofa Asiedu an actress and Amanzeba Nat Brew a musician.
A statement issued by the organization said the awards were the brai= n child of Bishop Kwaku Frimpong-Manson to provide a means of promoting soc= ial cohesion within the wider community whilst providing access to community services. It said the organisation had been active in helping individuals and other organisations to find appropriate ways to manage conflicts that mig= ht arise in their day to day activities for over 10 years.
This could range from confronting difficulties in personal relationships to settling international political differences. The statement said the UK Minister for Higher Education and Skills, Mr David Lammy, is embarking on his first official visit to Ghana to engage the government on educational initiatives between the two nations.
As part of his visit, a reception is to be hosted in his honour on t= he evening of Friday, February 12 2010 where the recipients would be honoure= d at Harrods International Hotel, East Airport, Flowerpot, Spintex Road. Past notable recipients of this award are: Baroness Amos of Brondsbu= ry, the first Black woman Cabinet Minister in the United Kingdom and Leader o= f the House of Lords, Mr. Isaac Osei, Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Mr. Kwame Kwei Armah, Actor and OBE Television. “As part of our on-going activities, we would like to encourage good=
relations amongst different cultures within the communities to foster peaceful co-existence and development,” it said.
