Reclaiming power from NDC won’t be easy – Alan K

Aspiring Leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has cautioned his party not to be complacent going into the 2016 elections but to present a formidable challenge in order to reclaim power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He admitted that reclaiming power from the ‘umbrella’ party will not be easy.

Launching his campaign ahead of NPP’s Presidential Primary on October 18, the Former Minister of Trade and Presidential Special Initiatives said victory for the ‘elephant’ party in 2016 is not a foregone conclusion.

If NPP does not present a strong united party, it may not be victorious, he said at La Paz in Accra in front of a crowd predominantly made up of polling station executives, according to speakers who mounted the stage.

Mr Kyerematen, therefore, called for immediate rebuilding of the NPP in order to reclaim power in 2016.

He promised jobs and money if voted to lead Ghana and the NPP.

The Former Ghana ambassador analogized that God had given the NPP two keys to a storehouse of property and since the party has tried one, and it has not worked, “let us try the other”, referring to himself.

Mr Kyerematen together with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Francis Addai-Nimoh are the candidates for the delegates’ conference after two – Joe Ghartey and Kofi Osei-Ameyaw – withdrew from the race.

Seven members had initially expressed interest, but the party’s constitution called for a Special Electoral College to prune the number down to five.

Among key members of the party present at Saturday’s launch were Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso Constituency Dr Richard Anane, Josephine Hilda Addoh, Former MP for Kwadwaso Constituency and Campaign Coordinator for the Ashanti Region, Kofi Dzameshie, the Campaign Manager and Nana Ohene Ntow, the Campaign Spokesperson.
