Recalcitrant employers will face court action – SSNIT.

Takoradi, April 19, GNA – The Social Insurance and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has initiated court proceedings against employers in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis who have defaulted in the payment of workers’ contributions.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency in Takoradi on Tuesday, Mr George Blege, Takoradi Branch Manager of the Trust, said court actions, which are the last resort, have become necessary due to the uncooperative attitude by some employers.

He said the debt burden of the Trust was increasing due to the refusal of some employers to send to SSNIT, deductions they have made from workers’ salaries.

Mr Blege said while others have negotiated and were paying their debts in instalments, others “treat the Trust with contempt each time we approach them”.
