Reading clubs launched in Cape Coast schools

Cape Coast, Dec. 4, GNA – Caring Kids International, a non-governmental organisation, on Friday inaugurated reading clubs in 10 selected schools in Cape Coast to inculcate the habit of reading in pupils in the municipality.

Under the programme ‘youth in excellent service’ (YES), some Senior Secondary Schools graduates who are yet to continue their education, have been trained to assist teachers in those selected schools to teach the children to read for them to improve upon their vocabulary. Inaugurating the clubs, Nana Frimpomaa II, Dwantoahemaa of Dormaa Traditional Area, the Executive Director of Caring Kids International, expressed the hope that all children in the municipality would join the clubs to enhance their studies.

The organisation donated assorted books to the children as part of the inauguration.

Nana Frimpomaa urged them to read more saying it was only through reading that their vocabulary would improve.

She also launched a programme dubbed “cleaning Ghana for computers” (CGC), which seeks to promote environmental cleanliness among young people who will in turn encourage their parents to separate garbage generated at home into containers and plastics. Nana Frimpomaa said her outfit will then sell the garbage to some companies for recycling and that the monies will be used to purchase computers for schools.

She appealed to companies in the country to assist the organisation by paying a token for the garbage to enable to provide computers for those schools as well as pay the school fees of needy but brilliant students.
