Rawlings to boom at NDC Congress

Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is billed to address delegates of the party at its national congress slated for this Saturday in Kumasi, General Secretary, Johnson Aseidu Nketia told reporters in Accra.

“By 8.50a.m., we expect all delegates to be properly seated before the arrival of President Rawlings, and the vice president and President Mahama will follow in that order,” Mr. Asiedu Nketia disclosed.

He added that the chairman of the party’s’ electoral committee will then lead congress to adopt the standing orders after which solidarity messages would follow.

Relationship between late President Mills, the national executive of the party and Mr. Rawlings has been frosty since the party won power in 2008; it is widely expected that the founder will seize the chance to cast innuendos and aspersions at certain individuals including members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The congress will however see the party name a new candidate as the party’s flag bearer for the impending 2012 general elections following the sudden demise of Professor John Evans Atta Mills.
