Rawlings not fighting Ahwois – Nyaunu

Former Lower Manya Member of Parliament, Michael Teye Nyaunu, has denied media speculations that former President Jerry Rawlings has an axe to grind with the Ahwois in the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr. Nyaunu told XYZ News on Tuesday June 2, 2013 that rumours of bad blood between Mr. Rawlings and the Ahwoi brothers is not credible.

“I don’t think that Jerry has a problem with the Ahwois,” Mr. Nyaunu said.

The Ahwoi brothers – Ato, Kwamena and Kwesi – have always been rumoured by the media to be a strong power block within the governing NDC.

They were alleged to have been the real power base behind late President John Mills’ government by virtue of their Fante origins.

They apparently pulled the strings behind the scenes to suit their whims.

Mr. Rawlings, who has always complained of corruption and rot within his own party, is speculated to have had no love lost between him and the Ahwois due to the latter’s apparent overbearing influence on former President Mills and his administration.

However, Teye Nyaunu says the NDC founder has never mentioned to him in any of their conversations that he harboured any misgivings against the Ahwois.
