Rawlings Is Back In Town

Daily Guide — The former President Jerry Rawlings and wife Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings last night arrived from Congo around 6.20 pm at the Kotoka International Airport on a chartered flight.

Those who met them at the airport were Messer Victor Smith and Daniel Mensah; Mr. Rawlings?s special aide and body guard/driver respectively.

The former presidential was wearing a brownish political suit, while Nana Konadu was also sharply dressed in a blue-black khaki suit.

Onlooker at the airport cheered them as they left the airport and Rawlings said a few words to them.

It would be recalled that Mr. Rawlings left the country on Wednesday morning for Brazzaville, the capital of Congo, together with his wife barely 24 hours after Tuesday polls.

Reports have it that they traveled on an air Iviore Fokker 28, VU 822 with registration number TUTIW.

The aeroplane was airborne at 08.15 GMT.

A statement issued by his special assistant, Victor Smith said the former president was visiting his friend Presidnet Dennis Sassou Nguesso.

According to Mr. Smith Rawlings was surprised at the large votes cast in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) especially from Ashanti.

The statement noted that former president Rawlings claimed that before he left for Congo, he saw and talked to several people who looked ?stunned and perplexed? at the votes being bagged by the NPP.

?The people?s wish must prevail and not those of the incumbent government and the NPP party? the statement pointed out.

Mr. Rawlings has at several rallies urged his party supporters to uproot like cassava President Kufuor should he win the polls.
