Former President John Rawlings has suggested that Northerners in the country have been too slow in demanding investigations into the killing of the overlord of the Dagbon state, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, from the Mahama-led administration.
According to him, the northern ancestry of the President makes it imperative for him to be interested in bringing finality to the protracted issue of who killed the prominent king.
Mr. Rawlings has consistently made public pronouncements indicating that he knows the killers of the Ya-Na, although he is yet to prove his claim.
During the erstwhile NPP regime, Rawlings said he could not trust the government enough for which reason he could not give out the vital information he had, including video evidence.
But after helping the party he founded get into power, the former military leader has still refused to release the said information.
Addressing a gathering at the funeral ceremony of the Kwawumanhene, Wednesday, the former President said the people of the North must seek answers from the president over the matter.
“We northern people have gotten a President from the north, won’t we put pressure on him to investigate Ya-Na’s killing?
“Or you want your kinsman from Tamale to be on the seat (presidency) and finish his term like that without any incident?” he wondered.
“A whole Ya-Na was killed and nothing serious has happened, later on, they deliberately paraded some people before court and discharged them later under frivolous excuses,” he alleged.
Rwalings added: “I don’t believe the Abudu side killed the Ya-Na, we know the people who committed that crime.
“Because the initial people who were arrested threatened to mention names, aren’t we going to investigate the matter,” he queried.
