Rawlings: I didn’t go to the Flagstaff House to inspire morale

Former President Rawlings has built an aura of respectability around him and stands out as a person who abhors ‘lies’. Shortly after he visited the Presidency around 9am on Thursday morning, it was reported that his visit surprised security and staff at the Presidency.

It was also reported that the surprised security detail who ushered the former president in could easily tell he was in high spirits and later discovered that his visit to the Flagstaff House was mainly to boost morale ahead of the 2016 general elections.

But the inaccurate news has been rubbished by the Office of His Excellency Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings.

In a statement signed and copied to Peacefmonline.com by his Communications Director, Mr. Kobina Andoh Amoakwa, he stated that President Rawlings’ visit to the Presidency was to discuss issues about collaboration on development opportunities for Ghanaian youth and to raise awareness about the challenges facing some sectors of the aviation industry in Ghana.

Statement Below

RAWLINGS VISITS FLAGSTAFF HOUSE

The Office of His Excellency Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings wishes to place on record that the former President called on His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama at the Flagstaff House on Tuesday, June 28, 2016.

Four persons including two Kenyan youth development experts accompanied President Rawlings to the pre-arranged meeting.

The two parties held fruitful discussions on issues pertaining to collaboration on development opportunities for Ghanaian youth, with the support of the government of Ghana.

Also on the agenda was a discussion on serious challenges facing some sectors of the aviation industry.

Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings did exchange brief pleasantries with Vice-President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur after his scheduled meeting with President Mahama.

The meeting was not a surprise visit and matters concerning the National Democratic Congress and the 2016 elections were not on the agenda or discussed.

Members of the media and the general public should ignore any other reports on the matter.
