Rawlings exposes Valerie Sawyerr on Chevy Coupé bribe claims

It has emerged that former President Jerry John Rawlings owns the pitch-black, convertible, sporty 1993 Chevy coupé car contrary to rumours it was a bribe gifted him on his 70th birthday.

Reports were rife that Ghana’s former head of state was gifted a unique collectible version of a classic American sports car on the June 22 this year coinciding with his 70th birthday anniversary

According to media reports, the classic car, is a 300 Horse Power, four-speed Automatic Transmission makes it a fitting gift, for a most-loved former President.

However, checks by mynewsgh.com revealed the car is Mr. Rawlings’ personal property as the identity of the person who presented it remains unknown and could not be traced.

According to checks by mynewsgh.com’s investigative reporter Kwabena Danso-Dapaah, the car has been at a mechanic shop for years undergoing some pimping which works were finished coinciding with his birthday and had to be handed back to the former President by the mechanic.

Sources close to the Rawlingses told reporter that the former President who was recently accused of receiving the car as bribe by the immediate past Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr Valerie Sawyer is ever ready to show documents to prove ownership.

A former Senior Policy Advisor to former President John Mahama, Dr Valerie Sawyerr who recently attacked the former President was quoted as saying “maybe they will explain to you that the Head of State put the money in a bag and placed it on the plane and that it was used for the ‘good of the country’ … the same way the US$5m (oops US$2m) was placed in a briefcase and put on the plane and was used ‘for the good of the country’.Maybe they will explain to you that the luxury car you see in their yard was given to them as a gift by unnamed friends … the same way the black convertible Chevy Coupe sports car was given by unnamed friends as a birthday gift”.
