Rawlings drowns Konadu NDP

… As he sends the party out of coverage area … with his presence at K’si NDC congress

The vigor with which the National Democratic Party (NDP) started its activities has died down.

Following President J.J. Rawlings’ confident appearance at the Special Delegates Congress of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kumasi last week, all the major actors in the NDP have recoiled into their shells.

The Enquirer is reliably informed that the NDP, which was formed by disgruntled elements with deep roots in the NDC, has recalled the emissaries it sent to various strongholds of the NDC back to Accra to re-strategize.

Before former President Rawlings stormed Kumasi to pour his heart out on the way forward for the NDC towards the December elections, the NDP was clandestinely using his name as the person likely to lead its campaign.

The secret move was sharp contrast to the assertion by the NDP kingpins that the former President was not part of the party.

Indeed, former President Rawlings has never been linked to the party, but his name was being used secretly to lure NDC supporters into the NDP fold.

The Enquirer’s checks, as a result of an earlier exposure on the activities of the NDP, have revealed that the party is not firmly on the ground.

Before the NDC congress in Kumasi, leading activists of the party had stormed various areas holding meetings with defeated parliamentary aspirants of the NDC to lure them to contest on its ticket for the December elections.

For now, it is not clear what the next move of the NDP would be, as its anthem is constantly played on certain radio stations.

In fact, the NDP had to cancel a schedule programme in Accra last week, when it gathered that former President Rawlings had honored an invitation to attend the NDC congress in Kumasi.

The NDC extended an invitation to the former President which was clear that he could attend the event with 20 people, with anticipation that the former First Lady would accompany him.

However, the former First lady, who the NDP had made it clear is a member, did not attend the NDC congress in Kumasi .
