The top military brass have again implemented the ban from military installations slapped on former President Jerry John Rawlings two years ago, by refusing him entry to Burma Camp to pay homage to his late friend WO1 Isaac Frempong alias Red Light.
This is the second time Rawlings had had his request to visit the Burma Camp rejected. The first was during the funeral and burial ceremony of Brigadier Dr Deh, a former Director of Medical Services, when the former President was diplomatically turned down from visiting Burma Camp by being told that the venue had been moved From Burma Camp to another place.
The ban from visiting military installations was instituted by the NPP government a result of his alleged activities at the Burma Camp after he handed over power to the incumbent government.
But Rawlings’ Special Aide, Victor Smith however says that the former President has not been officially informed by a letter of the ban. ”The only reason they provided us was that his non-presence would make it easier for control purposes. We would like to advise the former C-in-C not to attend the funeral in Burma Camp” for what they say was ”control purposes” Smith said adding that ”it didn’t make sense”.
”They make it look like when he enters Burma Camp, he would take over the Camp.” Smith continued.
Efforts to reach the military hierarchy as at press time for their side of the story proved futile.
