Rawlings demands prosecution of corrupt NPP officials

Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings has stated that the National Democratic Party (NDC) government has shown “too much leniency” in bringing corrupt officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)administration to book.

He said called on the Mills administration to take up the “moral mantle” and investigate the “massive corruption and innocent killings” during NPP reign from 2000-2008. Ex-President Rawlings was addressing the 11th Quadrennial National Delegates Congress of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) in Cape Coast on Wednesday.

He condemned the former NPP government saying the year 2000 to 2008 saw massive corruption particularly, in the civil service compelling many civil servants to engage in the malpractices of the day thus tarnishing the image of the civil service in the country. He cited cases like the death of Alhaji Issah Mobillah, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP) who was alleged to have been murdered by three military officers namely Col Appiah Yaw, Private Eric Modzaka, and Private Goka.

According to the former President, the NPP had attempted to hang the murder of the seven high court judges in 1982 on the neck of the NDC like an albatross describing it as “totally false” and added that the law vindicated Justice Amertefio who was implicated during investigation.

He said the NDC government has provided an opportunity for civil servants to restore the integrity it lost during former President John Agyekum Kufour’s regime and stated that “only a good government can enhance the efficient work of the civil service”

He also criticized the performance of the NDC government intimating that their performance is “below standard” and called on the leadership of the government and Ghanaians as a whole not to dismiss the concerns he has raised but entreated all to act on it.
