Rawlings deceived us – Akwatia NDP executives declare

Members of the Akwatia Constituency Branch of the National Democratic Party (NDP), on Wednesday described as deceitful the pronouncement of the former President Jerry John Rawlings that President John Dramani Mahama would win the 2012 election.

They said if President Rawlings was calling for the victory of President Mahama, then what was the essence of forming the NDP, which he had backed.

A statement signed by nineteen executive members of the party in the constituency, therefore, announced their resignation from the NDP to rather support the National Democratic Congress led by President Mahama.

The signatories include Nana Ampretwum, Chairman NDP; Samuel Ampretwum, Vice Chairman; Edward Yiadom Boakye, Secretary and Spokesperson; Emmanuel Asare, Deputy Secretary; Stephen Nkansah, Youth Leader; Adwoa Akyere, Women’s Leader and Florence Mensah, Treasurer.

It said, “We resigned from the NDP to throw our support to the NDC Presidential Candidate to campaign for him to win the forthcoming election. We supported the NDP because we were told before that former President Rawlings is part of the party but investigation revealed that he is not part of it and still remains a founder of the ruling NDC, who still has the party at heart”.

The executives expressed the hope that the founder would join the campaign team for victory in the forthcoming election. The statement declared: “Henceforth, we should be known as NDC activists who will join hands with the NDC campaign team to campaign for the party to win the forthcoming 2012 elections.
